University of Mary Washington is a public institution that was founded in 1908. It has a total undergraduate enrolment of 3,993 (fall 2020), its environment is suburban, and the campus area is 234 acres. It utilizes a semester-based academic calendar. University of Mary Washington’s ranking in the 2022 edition of Best Colleges is Regional Universities South, #19. The University of Mary Washington (UMW) is named after the former United States president’s mother and is located in Fredericksburg, Va. Students at UMW’s main campus can receive bachelor’s degrees in science, arts, and liberal studies, and master’s degrees in elementary education. About 10 miles northeast of Fredericksburg, at the Stafford campus, adult learners can take weekend and evening sessions to complete multiple bachelor’s and master’s degree programs.

UMW students can also hear from speakers at the Fredericksburg Forum, which has hosted notable figures such as former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, actor James Earl Jones, and late famous chef Anthony Bourdain.

 

Students at UMW can join in more than 150 groups, enjoy leisure sports and drive an hour to the attractions of Washington, D.C. Many UMW students listen to bands and play trivia games at The Underground in Lee Hall, which offers room for students to study, eat and enjoy entertainment. Student athletes can try out for the UMW Eagles varsity teams, which participate in the NCAA Division III Capital Athletic Conference and offer chances in more than 20 sports.

 

University of Mary Washington Tuition & Financial Aid

 

The tuition at the University of Mary Washington is $13,845 for in-state students and $30,502 for out-of-state students. The University of Mary Washington is more expensive when compared to the national average cost of in-state tuition, which is $11,331 a year. It is more expensive than the national average cost of out-of-state tuition, which is $27,028 for students who come from outside the state for their education.

Both tuition and fees are included in these statistics, which are commonly referred to as the “sticker price.” Fees vary from institution to institution and may be used to support library services, student gym facilities, student centers, technology resources, and campus health clinics, among other things.

University of Mary Washington Scholarships

At the University of Mary Washington, there are numerous scholarship options!

Endowed UMW Foundation Scholarships and Awards (non-Departmental) UMW Foundation Scholarships are funded by endowment funds managed by the UMW Foundation. UMW Foundation Awards are funded by endowment funds managed by the UMW Foundation. Applicants for these scholarships must apply online using the Online Scholarship Manager.

The application period for the academic year 2022-2023 begins on February 1st and ends on May 15th. We strongly recommend students to consult with their departments to determine their departmental application deadlines, as these may differ from the global application submission deadline of May 15th.

Both academic achievement and financial necessity may be taken into consideration throughout the selection process (based on the wishes of the scholarship donor). For consideration for need-based scholarships, you must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in addition to the scholarship application.

 

 

 

 

Departmental Scholarships and Awards

 

Every year, a variety of scholarships are awarded by the majority of academic departments. Each Department chooses awardees from among students who have declared majors in the discipline in which they are working. Scholarships are available for each academic department, and applications can be submitted through the University of Mary Washington Online Scholarship Manager.

Scholarships for Freshmen and Transfer Students awarded on the basis of merit

 

All first-time freshmen and transfer students are automatically considered for several scholarships based on their grade point average, SAT/ACT scores, and other factors. Students who do not submit test scores can also apply for scholarships, which are also available to current students. Candidates for merit-based awards must complete the First-Year Scholarship Acceptance Certificate before they can be considered for the grant.

 

Transfer Scholarship Award recipients are required to complete the Transfer Scholarship Acceptance Certificate.

 

Programs in Washington and Alvey, respectively

 

These endowed scholarship programs cover the full cost of tuition, fees, housing, and board for eligible students. These programs are available to incoming freshmen who apply through the Office of Admissions.

 

 

 

Scholarships from sources other than the University of Maryland

 

Students may apply for scholarships offered by organizations other than the University of Maryland. It is important to exercise caution when applying for scholarships online. Take care to ensure that the information and offers you receive are real, and keep in mind that there is no cost associated with locating scholarships or other forms of financial assistance. By visiting the Federal Student Aid Website, students may learn more about avoiding frauds and how to protect themselves.

Additionally, students can obtain information on non-UMW scholarships from their high school guidance department, community service organizations, non-profit organizations, churches/denominations, and employers.

Any outside scholarship awarded to a student should be clearly identified by the donor in the award letter sent to the Office of Financial Aid. If an outside scholarship is awarded to a student, the donor should make certain to include the student recipient’s name and student ID number in the award letter sent to the Office of Financial Aid. Scholarship checks should be sent to the Office of the Cashiers, not the Scholarship Committee.

 

 

 

It is prohibited for a student-athlete to receive financial aid, directly or indirectly, from a source outside the institution (e.g., a foreign government, a sports association, a high school booster club) for expenses related to attendance at an NCAA Division III member institution if the awarding of such financial aid is based in any degree on the recipient’s athletics leadership, ability, participation, or achievement in athletics. Scholarships are offered for the children of UMW employees who are enrolled in college. University of the West Indies (UMW) General Scholarship

 

This need-based UMW Scholarship is offered to students each year based on the amount of available funding. Students must submit the FAFSA by the priority filing deadline each year in order to be considered. Students are automatically considered depending on the amount of financial assistance they require, as calculated by the FAFSA application. The General Scholarship may be supported by the University of the West Indies or by Endowment Scholarships. This may cause students who have been awarded an endowed foundation scholarship to notice that their General Scholarship has been lowered as a result of the reduction.
